The Land Before Time is a 2025 American musical fantasy film directed (and co-produced) by Jon Favreau and co-produced by Rob Marshall from a screenplay by David Magee. Produced by Amblin Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures, the film stars the voices of Jacob Tremblay, Ever Anderson, Awkwafina and Alexander Molony with narration provided by David Attenborough. It is a live action remake of the 1988 animated film of the same name.
The film features dinosaurs living at the end of the Cretaceous. The plot features a young Alamosaurus named Littlefoot, who ends up alone after his mother is attacked by a vicious carnivore and dies (Tyrannosaurus). Littlefoot flees famine and upheaval to search for the Great Valley, an area spared from devastation, where the adult dinosaurs have moved on to. On his journey, he meets five young companions: Cera, a Triceratops, Ducky, an Edmontosaurus, Petrie, a Tethydraco, Chomper, a friendly talking Tyrannosaurus rex, and Spike, an Ankylosaurus. The film explores issues of prejudice between the different species and the hardships they endure in their journey as they are guided by the spirit of Littlefoot's mother and forced to deal with a "sharp tooth" (Tyrannosaurus). The film was released by Universal on October 17, 2025, to generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $791.7 million.
Plot[]
In a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth, a young Alamosaurus named Littlefoot lives with his herd. After he meets Cera again, they encounter Karen and a Tyrannosaurus called Sharp-tooth. Later on, after being separated in the earthquake, Littlefoot meets Chomper the tyrannosaurus, Spike the Ankylosaurus, Ducky the Edmontosaurus, and Petrie the Tethydraco who join him. As the gang crosses the water, Chomper's parents scare off Karen as Quentin the friendly Quetzalcoatlus comes to the gang's aid. After Chomper's Tyrannosaurus parents defeat Sharptooth, Kavin has reformed as he joins some other T-rexes, other Quetzalcoatlus, Deinosuchus and dromaeosaurs who scavenge the carcass. Upon finding the safety of the Great Valley, Littlefoot is reunited with his stepmother, father and grandparents. Meanwhile, Chomper is reunited with his parents, Petrie shows his flying to his family, Spike reunites with his ankylosaur mom and dad, Cera reunites with her parents and so does Ducky. At the end, Rooter concludes the story as Chomper joins Littlefoot and the others in a hug.
