Aquilomyrmex

One of a number of described hell ant (Haidomyrmecinae) species, an ant lineage with remarkable, bizarre mandibles. The mouth parts of Haidomyrmecinae appear to be part of a now extinct morphological syndrome that evolved for specialized prey capture.
