The large Scar Island swamp is very prominent in explorers’ tales and urban myths about the island. Not only is this because of the deadly Swamp Monster and giant crocodiles and other predators, but also because of the droves of Marsh Scorpions. These large arachnids are completely aquatic, and their book-lung has re-evolved into a sturdy set of gills. Mostly feeding on fish and other smaller swamp creatures, the largest prey they take is no bigger than a trout. However, their sting is notoriously painful, and almost a certainty if you venture into the waters of the swamp. Marsh Scorpions can swim powerfully with their lobed, paddle-like tails, and quickly respond en masse to a struggling animal venturing into the swamp, if only out of curiosity.
